• Previously, a file name that began with a hyphen was displayed in the menu as a separator line. This has been fixed.
• Previously, the settings dialog and many externals displayed a watch cursor when used in the Finder. This has been corrected. (Let me know if I missed one.)
• You now have the option of setting the menu title to “Other” rather than an icon. It takes up more room on the menu bar, but is easier to hit.
• The sample code for externals is no longer in the main OtherMenu release, but is available as a separate file called “OtherMenu Developer Kit”.
• The Quit Finder external can be reconfigured to quit any other single application.
• Adjusted the memory parameters of Volume Watch to make it more reliable. Also made the path relative to the System Folder rather than the root of the startup volume, for benefit of foreign users whose System Folder is not named “System Folder”.
• Changes in Memory Map that may make it give better information if you are using VM with 24-bit addressing. However, I haven’t been able to find any testers who use 24-bit VM.
New in 1.2.1:
• Fixed submenu delay settings and improved the settings dialog.
• Fixed conflict with ApplWindows and possibly other extensions. The symptom was that if you tried to select a window from the application menu, nothing happened.
• Modified the Hard to Soft Wrap external for better compatibility with applications that use private clipboards. Modified Windows external for better recognition of modal dialogs. Modified Memory Map external to allow quitting selected applications.
• Added the Volume Watch background application. See “About Volume Watch” for more information.
New in 1.2:
• This release is primarily to fix conflicts with other extensions that affect directory dialogs, such as Default Folder and Shortcut.
• New “Hard to Soft Wrap” external that alters text on the clipboard. This is actually a shell around a Clipboard Magician CNVT module. Users familiar with ResEdit could use it to change most other Clipboard Magician modules into OtherMenu externals. (I say “most” because CM CNVTs that call other CNVTs will not work.)

• Within a directory dialog, you can use OtherMenu to select a folder or file.
• Several settings can be changed using a dialog that comes up when you select “About OtherMenu” with the shift key held down. One may turn off the startup icon, set the size of the menu cache, and modify timing parameters of hierarchical menus.
• Put Away can now unmount disks without the Finder running.
• There is a new Quit Finder external.
• I have done some work to speed up menu-building.
• The menu bar doesn't get drawn during startup.

1.2 Date/Time
Displays a submenu showing the date and the time in several formats. Selecting one pastes it into the current document. You can specify a suffix, e.g. you might want to append “ CDT” after the time.
1.2 Delete…
Delete a file or empty folder. If you want to delete a folder full of files, you can use “Move to Trash” and “Empty Trash” instead.
1.3.1 Desktop Info
Utility for poking around in the desktop database.
1.0.1 Empty Trash
Like selecting “Empty Trash” in the Finder, except that you don’t get a dialog asking if you're sure.
1.2.2 File Info…
Get some information about a file, and lock or unlock it.
1.2 Hard to Soft Wrap
Edits text on the clipboard by replacing any isolated carriage return with a space. Multiple carriage returns are left alone. A carriage return at the very beginning or end is deleted. Since this does not do anything immediately visible, it plays a sound when it completes successfully.
In some applications that do not use the system clipboard, such as CompuServe Navigator, this may not operate on the right text. Holding the option key when using it may make it do the right thing in these cases.
1.3 Make Alias As…
Make an alias for a file, folder, or volume, and put it where you like.
1.2 Memory Map
Find out how much memory each application is using, and how much is left. You can select applications and tell them to quit.

Move a selected file or folder to the trash.

Move or rename something. One can only move something within a volume, as in Finder.

Selecting something (file or folder) with this is rather like selecting it in Finder and then selecting Open from the Finder menu. In some cases, especially when Finder is not running, this may be able to launch something when OtherMenu itself cannot.

Open the OtherMenu Folder as a window in the Finder.
1.2.2 Put Away…
Put items in the trash or on the desktop back where they came from. Also unmounts disks.
1.1 Quit Finder
Tells the Finder to quit. Actually, you can use this to make any other single application quit, by using its configuration dialog to specify the creator code of an application. But you’d only do that for something you quit very often, since Memory Map would otherwise be a more convenient way to quit something.

Like the Restart command in Finder. In fact it works by telling Finder to do a restart.

Like the Shut Down command in Finder.
1.1.1 Speaker Volume
Provides a submenu for setting the speaker volume.
1.2 Volume Info
Shows the icon, name, free space, and number of files on each mounted volume.
1.2.2 Windows
Provides a submenu of windows in the current application. Selecting one brings it to the front, unless the front window is a modal dialog. Not to be confused with a DOS enhancement of the same name.

Shows how much system memory OtherMenu is using, and how many menus are cached. This is actually not a true external, the code it runs is in OtherMenu itself.
